Pittsburgh, PA March 6, 2025— Axxess Networks is excited to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) to modernize and enhance the district’s communication systems.
Axxess Networks developed a comprehensive plan to replace outdated Cisco Call Managers and copper lines and implement a new Unified Communications (UC) system across 65 school locations. This upgrade includes the deployment of over 4,500 VoIP telephones.

The upgrade have replaced failing CISCO Call Manager school phones with a new UC system. Additionally, each location received upgraded phone hardware and Axxess’ “Live Failover” service, ensuring continuous connectivity even during internet outages or disasters.
The project also includes upgrading elevator and emergency phones that rely on outdated copper lines, equipping them with LTE and battery backups. Axxess Networks integrated the new UC system with the school’s existing paging systems. Providing a single, streamlined management portal for district-wide communication will facilitate easier maintenance going forward.
Ensuring a Seamless Transition for Pittsburgh Public Schools
Axxess Networks worked closely with the PPS IT and Telecom Departments to ensure a smooth transition, aiming to complete the upgrade with minimal disruption. The entire deployment was completed in 90 days!
